Don't forget to complete the final assignment by tomorrow!! 20 Points!
Email me if you need anything! Happy Summer! Hope you looked at the First Global Age Multiple Choice- Here is the answer key:
For a final assignment- I would like you to think about the Global 9 course- think about enduring issues in History- and Columbus, as his discovery really sets up your Global 10 curriculum! Take a look at the following and answer the questions on this GOOGLE FORM 1. Final Exam's Enduring Issue Extended Essay: (You do not have to write this essay!!! This would have been part III of the Final!!!)
2. Columbus on Trial: Great news: There will be only one final assignment!!! It will be posted Wednesday and you will have a week to do it! So by Wednesday- Familiarize yourself with aspects of the First Global Age (Chaps 14+15) Ways to do this: 1. Read the Chapters- Pay extra attention to: Chapter 14- Section 4: Encounters in East Asia Chapter 15- Section 1: Conquest in the Americas Chapter 15- Section 2: Spanish and Portuguese Colonies in the Americas Chapter 15-Section 4- The Atlantic Slave Trade Chapter 15- Section 5- Effects of Global Contact Notice European involvement in different parts of the world during this time. 2. After reading- Test yourself- See how you do on these common regents multiple choice:
3. Look at this incredible graphic: Slate- Interactive of Slave Ships
Watch how many slave ships are coming across the Atlantic - especially by the 1600s-1700's. Click on any ship to see how many slaves were aboard and which European country was trading. CHECK SITE ON WEDNESDAY FOR YOUR FINAL ASSIGNMENT!!! Email me with any questions or concerns! Hopefully you were able to look over the intro material posted last class.
An Enduring Issue throughout this topic is Interconnectedness: The state of having connections or relationships with other people. The connections and relationships Europeans have throughout this time period do not seem to be positive though. Keep this in mind in our final weeks and as you look at the causes and effects of the Age of Exploration. Interconnectedness before and after the Age of Exploration DUE FRIDAY: MAKE A COPY Answer in Full sentences and Upload to Google Classroom by Friday 2:00! You are almost there...just a couple more weeks!!! Our final topic- The First Global Age- Chapters 14+15 Now that Europe has had a Renaissance- Exploration and Imperialism begin!!! (This is a crucial unit to understanding Global 10 next year - And don't forget you will be taking a Regents Exam at the end of Global 10!!!) We have studied a lot of different places this year- but this final topic is the first time there is true Global contact- Hence, the first Global Age! By Wednesday: 1. Read Chapter 14- Section 1 2. Study the notes attached below. In both, look for reasons Europe "looked outward" and pay attention to all the famous explorers routes! Often this will be referred to as "The Age of Exploration!"
Hello! This week I would like you to finish up the Renaissance Chapter. Try to read through Sections 3,4,+5 of Chapter 13. Notice this important chapter includes the Renaissance, but also: -The Protestant Reformation (section 3) -The Counter (Catholic) Reformation (section 4) -The Scientific Revolution (section 5) When teachers refer to these, its important to remember they were all happening during the same time period. (Which is why they are all crammed into Chapter 13) Obviously the Renaissance is a time period that Historians have trouble with, as there is a lot going on!! After reading and learning about these other topics (all happening at generally the same time) please answer some final questions about important individuals during all of this: Due by Friday May 29th: Google Form (Late points deducted after Friday. If you do submit late it is helpful if you email me that you have completed) MACHIAVELLI Notes and primary source:
Machiavelli- #46: Scrub to 1:30!! The 2nd list- (Video List) is due today!!! Announcement: Watch #1 above- Again!!!
Why is this innovation so important?? Thank you for uploading your lists! Looks like many of you feel Columbus and DaVinci were the most influential individuals on the list. I don't blame you! I would have placed Columbus very high too! Now watch the video- and see what the experts say! This link is the entire show: 100-1 Just click and find the Top 11. (Part 19) As you watch, record the show's actual list and write why the experts feel they are influential. Think about your list and how right or wrong you were! Upload this second list on Google classroom by Wednesday- 10 Points!!!
PS- You don't have to watch the entire show- That would be hours! Just watch the Top 11!!!
Hopefully you were able to read Sections 1+2, look over the notes I posted, and look into the "Renaissance Men." Today I would like to challenge you to rank your list of the "Renaissance Men." Your list should be based on INFLUENCE and CHANGE. *Who on the list has been the most influential + caused the most change?* Enduring Issue= Innovation!!!! Use the index of your textbook to see what each individual did- then place them on the word document below in the order you feel best shows how influential they are to History! 11-1 (1 being the most influential person of the last 1000 years!) Post your list to Google classroom by Friday! 10 Points!
Next week we will watch a video where Historians, Scientists, and other Experts rank these figures. You will be able to see how your list holds up!
This week you should try to learn as much as you can about a fun period in History known as the Renaissance! Renaissance = Rebirth Most people think about the Renaissance as a rebirth of learning and culture in Europe after the Medieval Dark Ages. While there is amazing art that is created in this time period- you should realize that this is also a period of great questioning, intellectualism, scientific discovery, and exploration! IMPORTANT: This is the start of "Modern World-History" and really an intro to Global 10. There is a Regents Exam at the end of Global 10- So understanding the changes that take place in Europe during the Renaissance will greatly help you understand many topics next year! So- By Wednesday please do the following: 1. Read Chapter 13- Sections 1+2 2. Review the posted notes below 3. Take notes on the "Renaissance Men" Who were they? How did they change the world?
